I have 4 spindly apricot trees that are getting too high and 1 other bush that needs pruning. I would like someone to knock the fruit trees off about 3/4 way up as they are too tall. We have a ladder but nothing we can use to cut the trees. My husband is too frail to help hold the ladder, I can do that if someone else can get up and cut them. We live in Tinwald. Located between the Pukenui and Otaika Reserves, These forests are home to many of New Zealand's treasured species like kiwi and short-tailed bats. Māra Kokotoha is being returned to native bush to help provide a wildlife corridor through disturbed land. It already hosts a variety of native birds and animals, and even has frequently seen bats. With work beginning in 2022, this rural property of 6 hectares in has had hundreds of natives planted, invasive plants removed, and is actively pest-controlled. Historically this land was forest, specifically "volcanic taraire forest" (an endangered ecosystem) but for the last century has been host of cows, sheep, and pigs. However, we are committed to returning this land to primarily native plants. We will be reserving some areas for a food forest, camping, and our living and gardening needs. However, the vast majority is to be replanted with natives to encourage a safe habitat for native animals. We are installation artists ourselves and have already started installing artworks throughout the property. Ultimately we hope to host artists for retreats and campouts, art installations, green tech experiments, couchsurfers, campers, and more.
