Nature Cleanup - Hāwera - Scott St Walkway

Nature Cleanup at the Scott St Walkway (Hāwera) on Saturday 30 May 10am (it is fine to be late!) Come and help us clean this beautiful walkway and surroundings! This event is sponsored by the Toi Foundation and is family and young kids-friendly! Your pēpi and tamariki are welcome! ALL WELCOME! You do NOT need to be “fit” or stay for the full 2 hours. Any help is MUCH APPRECIATED! 10am (or later) - Meet us at the end of Scott Street (at 2 Scott St) for a kōrero - briefing. Look for the Sustainable Taranaki flag! BYO gloves & buckets if possible, but we'll provide some if needed! + BYO gumboots if possible! Some sections might be muddy. 12pm (or earlier) - Meeting back to drop off all the trash collected (we will separate all items to divert as much as we can from the landfill) No RSVP required! Just show up! The aim of this event is: to clean this location the best we can to divert trash from the landfill to engage and educate our community about waste and recycling to create a fun and meaningful event for families to connect with the environment and take action towards bettering sustainability/conservation See you on Saturday 30 May. 10am (or later!) at the Scott St Walkway! ** ** This event is weather-dependent and may be postponed. Supporting St Mary's Community Garden reward system - ongoing initiative

Taranaki Timebank partners with community groups working towards Kai resilience. We support St Mary's Community Garden in Hawera who has a community cupboard/ the pātaka kai. Home growers also donate produce to keep our community nourished with fresh vegetables. Timebank members are encouraged to share and support this initiative. For each offering of food you will receive one time credit. For each photo you provide will earn you / a time credit. It may be used for Facebook posts. Lunch is on us! Come and help us keep compost and recycling out of landfill, keeping the beautiful Ngāmotu Beach area clean and tidy and helping the Seaside Market shoppers make the right decisions when disposing of their rubbish. It’s a great atmosphere and the public are so encouraged by what we do in this space. Shifts available in October: Sunday 19th 9:30am-12noon Sunday 19th 12noon-2:30pm Monday 27th (Labour Day) 9:30am-12noon Monday 27th (Labour Day) 12noon-2:30pm

Climate Action Now - a community gathering for a just future

Have you always wanted to be part of the solution, to build a just future for all, and realise that you can’t do it alone? If the answers are yes, then join us at our wānanga aimed to mobilise the community and grow climate action collectively. Climate Action Now will be a free, all day event with speakers and workshops focusing on some of the issues and solutions identified in Toitū Taranaki 2030. Our keynote speakers will be Prof Bronwyn Hayward, University of Canterbury, and iwi leader Mike Smith of Ngāpuhi and Ngāti Kahu. There will be three interactive workshops on: 1) energy and transport, 2) agriculture, food resilience and reforestation, 3) political and social transformation, education and mobilisation.
