Nature Cleanup at Ōakura Beach on Saturday 31 January 10am (it is fine to be late!)
Come and help us clean the beautiful Ōakura Beach and surroundings!
This event is family and young kids-friendly! Your pēpi and tamariki are welcome!
ALL WELCOME! You do NOT need to be “fit” or stay for the full 1.5 hours. Any help is MUCH APPRECIATED!
10am (or later) - Meet us at Ōakura Beach (main car park by the playground, corner of Tasman Parade and Shearer Dr) for a kōrero - briefing. Look for the Sustainable Taranaki flag!
BYO gloves and buckets if possible, but we'll provide some if needed!
11.30am (or earlier) - Meeting back to drop off all the trash collected (we will separate all items to divert as much as we can from the landfill)
No RSVP required! Just show up!
The aim of this event is:
to clean this location the best we can
to divert trash from the landfill
to engage and educate our community about waste and recycling
to create a fun and meaningful event for families to connect with the environment and take action towards bettering sustainability/conservation

Come and help us keep compost and recycling out of landfill, keeping the beautiful Ngāmotu Beach area clean and tidy and helping the Seaside Market shoppers make the right decisions when disposing of their rubbish. There’s also the opportunity to help man the innovative wash trailer as the market now uses reusable plates and cutlery. It’s a great atmosphere and the public are so encouraged by what we do in this space. Shifts available in November: Sunday 2nd 9:30am-12noon and 12noon-2:30pm, Sunday 16th 9:30am-12noon and 12noon-2:30pm.

I am a passionate Harakeke (NZ flax) weaver and have been weaving for about 15yrs, I'm happy to help you wherever you are on your raranga (weaving) journey.
I can do 1 on 1 lessons at my weaving studio in Whangarei, swapping an hour for an hour.
Let me know what your goals are and what you want to weave!
Alternatively we could try and do it on Zoom... never done that before, but happy to give it a go if you can't get to Whangarei!
