Hi we need volunteers to help us maintain our compost at CBEC in exchange for some compost to take home! The next date set is 10 June 11am and then every second Tuesday of the month thereafter. Eco Solutions collect paper towels from kindis, and the waste from the Kaitaia Market and compost it, we then gift it back to the kindis and kura, we would love a few extra hands to turn the compost every month, we are happy for helpers to take home compost in return! The He Awhi Rito Community Compost bins (no 8 1st Avenue Whangarei) are in a dire state! We (Judy, Janey, me and Clint) will be in Whangarei on Tuesday 20th to dig out gluggy compost and mix in greens/carbons and AIR to get them pumping again. If anyone can lend a hand, and/or has greens or browns they can contribute, please get in touch or turn up between 10.30-4 (I'm driving down from Kaitaia to help, so wont be there early!!). The secondary compost bins are also falling apart, any handy builders out there that have some time to lend a hand, Clint would appreciate the help!
These bins process event compostable waste and feed into the community gardens, so any help here will also help our Whangarei community.

We process event waste from community events in Whangarei. We're after some manure, horse/cow/chicken etc to help heat up our compost and get it processing faster. We're based in the avenues, so central Whangarei.

We (KaitaiaCycle) are in need of spray free lawn clippings for our compost to balance with more nitrogen. Drop off to either CBEC or by the compost bins near drop in surf shop. We can provide empty fadges/wool bales for filing and sort a swap system at either or both places. This would be fantastic if it was a weekly/fortnightly arrangement.
